My first didgeridoo was a indonisian bamboo didge from a mineral store in Phoenix AZ.
I had always wanted to learn since I saw one played as a small child, then reminded when I saw one on the Simpsons (lol). At the time I had never even seen a didge in person, and 35 dollars was a right price...I took me a week to make an ok drone and almost 3 months to circular breath at all. I didn't know anyone who played so I had to rely on the internet and second hand info. A year or two later I lent/gave the bamboo didge to a friend, who has moved out of state. My next didge was a nice pvc didge that played very well, what a difference it made! Didge has changed my life and opened many, many great new doors, and cured my snoring! (ask my wife, haha).
Lets hear your story!

Re: First didge stories...
Sat, November 22, 2008 - 6:46 PMMy first didge was also bamboo. I got it at a local festival for $40. It was like playing a telephone pole the bore was so big. The story goes that when I saw the box full of didges it was in, I was with a friend. I was very excited when I pulled the one out and blew through it for my friend to hear. A bunch of saw dust came out the other end along with this squarking sound....... My friend was less than impressed.
Not too long after, I got a Dave Hudson CD and tried some of the things he was doing on this didge.....it sure makes for a good laugh looking back on those days of being a complete neophyte.
My next didge was a teak didge that is a sweet player. I've since refinished it and given it too a friend of mine for him to learn on. I now have started making my own didgeridoos from yucca some three and half years after starting this whole journey and I'm having a ball at it along with playing. And there you have it.
Peace,
Pam

Re: First didge stories...
Sun, November 23, 2008 - 8:18 AMI went to a Yanni concert, and saw David Hudson play the didgeridoo back in 2005. I got online and learned more about it. Then I bought my first pvc didge off eBay. Frustrating at first. Luckily my didge came with a how-to cd that Peter Spoecker did. Circular breathing took forever since I listened to the advice that "it will come naturally". Yeah... actually... Noooo!
Just like Pam and Brad, I also loaned/gave my starter away to help someone learn.

Re: First didge stories...
Mon, November 24, 2008 - 8:36 PMMy first was a lewis burns workshop didge. I remember being so bad at playing it i wondered if i had picked out a good enough log. Lewis took a look at it and played a bit, 'works for me'. LMAO Looking back i still find it funny, i felt like a dumb ass.
