Im moving to Burlington, Vermont come late August, and naturally cannot leave my beloved didj behind! Its a big (about 6 foot) agave with a nice bell at the end. Obviously, I would be traumatized if something happened to it, so there is no way in hell im shipping it or checking it on the plane.

That said, does anyone have any recommendations/experience traveling non-hardwood didjeridus???

    Hello!

You could easily ship it, or check it on the plane... all depends on what you prefer to do. I flew from Pennsylvania to Fresno with two didges (and clothes in between) inside a SporTube 3:

Shipping UPS ground is also a viable option... just get Jeff to help you pack it up good!
(I see he is on your friend network, he's also in Portland)

Good luck with your move to Burlington... I hope you like cows and snow! :)

Concrete form tubes (sono tube) sold @ home depot have protected my didjs. every time under the plane and UPS. Sounds like you could use two tubes one partially stuffed into the other. Make two cuts down one end of a tube as far as it is stuffed into the other and tape the crap out of the joint (make the tube a few inches longer than didj.at each end for padding). For the ends, use thick cardboard cut to the same diameter of tube while leaving four 6"-8" long by 4" wide strips attached. The strips fold over the outside and with more tape, BAM!
