Hello Didj family,
My partner and I are offering a sound healing journey / concert at an outdoor festival in Oregon this summer and are planning to pick up a wireless setup so we can move through the audience with our instruments (didj, voice, rattles, chimes, etc . . .) while still transmitting through the sound system. Does anyone have any advice for a setup which would allow me to mic my didj, and my partner to mic her voice with a headset? We'd like to keep our budget within the $500 range for the whole shabang . . .
thanks much for any input!

Re: wireless mic setup?
Fri, August 1, 2008 - 8:46 AMHey;
There are all sorts of good setups for going wireless on a didge, but you're gonna have a really hard time coming in at $500 or under unless you find used gear.
You can't use the same radio channel for both voice and didge, so you'll need two complete sets.
For **each performer** You'll need:
1) A mic that is good enough to handle the instruments
2) A transmitter pack - from the didge to the board
3) A receiver at the board end.
You can often get a deal on some sort of combo pack.
Here's a basic setup that would probably work well for your didge
www.sweetwater.com/store/de...7ASW4-U1/
...though I don't know how the battery life is on that mic/transmitter.
But you're already up to $400 + shipping for just one performer.
your partner will need a duplicate set.
Here's a used demo model from the same site www.sweetwater.com/store/de...05SCH5d1/
but I don't know the brand, or how good it will be with didge, or if it's even still available.
Also; On the didge, you'll need a way to mount the transmitter. You can tape or clip the mic into place on the bell end of the instrument, but you'll need access to the transmitter if you need to change batteries or transmitter channels. I use a little cloth bag that is zip-tied to the intrument.
Also, also, know that these things are basically meant for you to be wireless onstage. The farther away you get from the receiver, the less good your sound is going to be. With my Sennheiser setup, I have roughly 75 feet before it begins to cut out.
Also, also, also - remember that when you get in front of a big speaker, you run the risk of feedback. (Not what you want for a sound healing journey - be sure to soundcheck !)
Remember - whatever you get - bring extra batteries!
Good luck!

Re: wireless mic setup?
Sat, August 2, 2008 - 1:13 AMthats about all you need right there.. the only thing i can ad is to make sure you get UHF not VHF, you dont want to get truckers coming through in the middle of your playing :) I talked to my Mom ( who handles all of the PA and related equipment at my family's music store) and she came up with $865 shipped for both set ups. good luck man!
take care,

Re: wireless mic setup?
Mon, August 4, 2008 - 12:21 PMThanks so much for the helpful info, Jay! I hadn't thought out the feedback possibility, so the words of caution are most welcome. I'm still sitting with the info you shared. I'll have to see if I can afford all that is needed for the setup. Again, thanks for the help!
best,
Ryan
