snoring survey

Hey didjers......just a little survey for you. We've been approached numerous times by folks who have heard that playing didjeridu wil cure snoring and/or sleep apnea. We even worked briefly with a sleep apnea therapist and her results were not encouraging. Personally, we doubt that many, if any, folks are cured of either condition by playing didj.
For myself and my wife, we snore just as good as ever, even after nearly 12 years of playing. How about you? Has playing had any effect on whether you snore or not? Do you know of any other players who claim to be cured of either condition? This is not intended to be a scientific survey.

Those 2 conditions aside, we are strong supporters of the numerous health benefits to be a result of playing didj.

Cheers,

P&E

Well......so far no cure claims have come forth.....not surprising tho.

The only change/improvment I've experience is my voice's range has been greatly expanded...from singing and barking as low and high as I can whenever I play. I still snore, but my wife claims it might be a bit less.

      Hey Per (and everyone).

While I don't really have anything to add here personally, I can say that despite the fact that there isn't much proof to the snoring theory, there must be something to it, to have a "scientific report" done.

Unless of course the government is behind the research. In that case, I'm sure we'll be told what to believe, and how much more of a "sleep apnea curing device" tax we'll have to pay.

      :-)

That's one of the things I find interesting about these so-called "scientific reports." I don't seem to be able to find the "science" behind them....then too, maybe I'm just not looking deep enough?

i think its the amount of moola you can sucker people in for a scientific study that is the underlying science of it all.

          Found it!
Here is the actual study published by the BGM:
          www.bmj.com/cgi/content/...;332/7536/266

"Regular playing of a didgeridoo reduces daytime sleepiness and snoring in people with moderate obstructive sleep apnoea syndrome and also improves the sleep quality of partners..."

OK, so I'll try to keep it real.
I think what all they are reporting is that if you already have moderate apnoea, then playing the didge will caused you to sleep better and have less apnoeas during the night. So really what we need to do is find someone with a serious pre-exsting medical condition like moderate apnoea and have them tell us thier thoughts.

It doesn't actually say in the study that its a "snore cure". Its a snore reducing exercise for people with a real problem?

BTW, after all the talk and hype, today is the first time I have actually found the study and read it :) The fact that it was even published means it was at least a peer reviewed study. hmmm..
