Just wanted to drop a line and say hi to everyone. I found this site through the JT site. A little about me.. ive been "playing" on and off since I was 14 (27 NOW) but just recently sort of started playing alot more and trying to find my style. nothing clears my mind more than playing my favorite didge. I have a collection of 13 pvc and 2 bamboo didges, My parents own a music store so i have always had access to these types for very little cost, recently Ive found I can finally tell the difference between wood and plastic in sound terms and have begun looking for the right eucalyptus didge.. ill know it when i find it :) Ive never played or even held a eucalyptus didge.. just heard tons of songs and seen tons of videos. I also like the sound of many agave and yucca didges and would like to collect a few stalks to try my hand at making one on my own... again, I have no experience with yucca or agave didges either. I have made several decent sounding pvc didges with the help of my trusty zinser thermal welder ( wich doubles as a gnarly heat gun in a pinch). I am going to JT this year and would like to meet some fellow didge players. Im 6'7" and 345lbs so i shouldnt be too hard to miss.

I look forward to seeing you there Jay! Just look for a bald guy on a slackline, that will be me :)

There will be TONS of didges for you to try at JT, I'm sure you'll find something you'll like (and just can't live without *grin*).

Welcome Jay. Yes, you will have some great choices of both agave and yucca, as well as other types of didjes at JT. The best crafters in the US will be there.....or at least many of them:-) Watch out for the low doorway to the registration bldg;-) See ya there.

    Cheers,

Great to see new folks headin' out! It seems like every year I go I end up finding one of those "can't live without it" logs. Something will grab you! I will recommend getting there the first day or two and really making the rounds so that you have a better chance of finding "THE ONE" before it finds someone else!!! There are TONS of great didges of all kinds, but it seems like there are always a few that just have a special fit with different folks, and of course it's different for everyone. All of the crafters are VERY cool about trying things out and getting to know the sticks so have a good ol' time man! we'll see you there! I'm not 6-7 or bald.....so I guess I'll just find you!!!! take care!!!

thanks all!! I have developed a fondness for the clear LOUD vocal ability and bassy response of my favorite thin walled big belled plastic didge, ive listened to almost every mp3 on www.didjshop.com and have found a few euc didges that seem to sound as good( but better because of the additional warmth added in) and have heard through other sites and good old youtube, agave and yucca instruments with a similar incredible traits. the didge that has clarity, volume, warmth and responsivness all wrapped up into one is obviously what everyone is after and in turns brings the bucks when offered for sale, it seems that a yucca or agave unit with those characteristics is more attainable from a monitary standpoint than a euc didge. I suppose my hunt will come to a temporary end at JT and i look forward advancing my abilitys and learning more about the didge and its culture.

anyone local to the 209 area? stockton, modesto turlock, tracy etc?

Just don't buy into didjshops propaganda. You are going to find that the handcrafted didges at the JT will blow your socks off.

Roger that man, i would venture to guess that any major retailer or reseller has some propaganda :) im not one to fall for most of it even bieng a realative newbie. Everyone who has a product.. any product.. believes in their stuff enough to knowingly or even somtimes unknowingly to develope some sort of propaganda. I love the fact that there are great crafters here in the US and i want to fully support them for their efforts, not knocking the didjshop in any way but im a local support kind of guy ;) My eventual plans are to hookup with a crafter here and sell their goods at our music store, the store was opened in 1950 and isnt going anywhere, the local market for didges is slim so one or two at a time will be all that can be handled to begin with, but i have taught 3 peope basic playing skills and they are reffering more people to me, eventually these guys are gonna need to move up from their plastic didges ( i better have moved up before them, lol) and i want to have something nice to offer them.
